古来より「鶴は千年」といわれ「長寿を象徴する吉祥の鳥」として、また夫婦仲が大変良く一生を連れ添うことから「夫婦鶴めおとづる」といわれて「仲良きことの象徴」とされています。

Since ancient times, the crane has been regarded as a bird of good fortune, symbolizing longevity—“the crane lives for a thousand years.”　As cranes remain with the same partner for life, they are also known as meoto-zuru (a pair of cranes), a symbol of marital harmony.
